To begin, sandblasting is the process of shaping, cleaning and smoothing surface, especially the most difficult ones, by blasting solid particles across the surface at high speeds. The effect is similar to that of using sandpaper, but sandblasting provides a much more even and better surface.

This process is used to remove paint or coatings and is applied to finished wooden pieces that are now in need of a new painting or coating . Tongue & groove and beam ceiling homes extensively use this sandblasting technique for this purpose.

We can also sandblast wood for the sole purpose of creating art pieces. It is very crucial to to choose the right components for this goal. For example, the equipment itself is just one aspect of sandblasting. Another is the materials used in the process. There are an almost endless number of materials that can be used, from actual sand to baking soda, corn cobb to walnut shells. Selecting an improper material may create a wrong look, or perhaps no look at all. Keep in mind what may be right for one project, might not be right for the next, as sandblasting is really an art.
